Hope

Age (Estimate):  1 Year

Breed/Info: Lab Mix

Hope used to live on the streets of the Rio Grande Valley. She was someone’s dog as a puppy. How do we know? Because they put a collar on her and then dumped her. As she grew, the collar grew into her neck. Literally becoming a part of her body. A young high school student found her and put out a plea for someone, anyone to please help her, and with your help we answered her call. Hope has never lost her happy demeanor, regardless of the pain we know she is in...and the way humans have neglected her in the past. Foster needed!

Sir Macallan

Age (Estimate):  8 years

Breed/Info: Pointer/Lab Mix

Some things get better with age and special care, so met Sir Macallan. The good news is that we have officially killed and removed over 300 ticks, he is clean, his ears and joints seem good for his age, and he is eating well. He did also have some eye gunk going on, but we have meds for that too, and they already look so much better.

Macallan is a bit shy with new people, but can be bribed with a car ride with the windows down. He appears to be a bit timid around other dogs, but doesn’t have an aggressive bone in his body. He just walks to another room when he gets nervous.

Valentia

Age (Estimate):  1 Year

Tied to a post her entire life, sweet Valentina is looking for a home where she can receive the love and attention she deserves.

Their shelter was so full, owners surrenders were being taken directly to the euthanasia room. We just couldn’t let her go down without a chance, so she’s made her was up to Dallas and is at our rescue center waiting for the perfect family to find her! Foster needed!

Alastair

Age (estimate): 2-3 years

Breed/Info: Great Pyrenees/Lab Mix

Every once in a while a dog grabs you and just won’t let you go. Something speaks to you and tells you that you can’t turn away and must fight until justice is found.

Early this morning we were asked if we might be able to help this dog. Even 550 miles away, we knew we couldn’t let him spend one more night on his own. Thank heaven for amazing rescue partners! At 8:55 tonight, we received word that they finally found Alastair! He had come back to protect his family’s belongings...like he has every night since they moved away.

You see, these are pictures of Alastair sitting amidst his family’s unwanted items. He was discarded like trash with all of the other items they didn’t want anymore. No food, water, or even shelter for him to hide away in during the 100+ degree days. Yet, he still waited patiently for them to come back for him. After weeks of waiting, tonight is his new beginning. We have a foster who will temporarily care for him until we can get him to Dallas on Wednesday night. We need your help finding this beautiful soul a local foster, and raising money for the medical care we are guessing he has never had. Any help is greatly appreciated.

Welcome to your future, Alastair! It is no longer your job to be the protector.

Update 7/22/19: we are broken hearted to report that Alastair was neglected even more than we knew at first. He is at the vet right now, so week he can barely stand. He has major lacerations around his neck from an embedded collar, is severely emaciated and is swollen in places that no male animal wants to be swollen. We are waiting on more news from the vet, so stay tuned to our page for more updates. We will add a couple new pictures in the comments. Please note that some may be graphic.

7//26/19: Update from our vet. Our sweet Alastair made it to our vet in Dallas today! He is the already improving and his blood count is up to 22%, so he doesn’t need another blood transfusion and the moment. He still has a ton of medical care coming his way, from immunizations, neutering (which will be complex due to some other injuries), and his HW treatment. He doesn't have enough blood count yet to start any of those treatments, but they will be on the horizon as he gets healthier.

His neck is going to need some time to heal from the embedded collar, but the tissue looks great and we expect a full recovery. They are estimating him to be between 6-7 years old. While he isn’t a baby, he has a lot of life left in him. We can’t wait to see him improve. He is getting lots of food to build up his strength, walking is a bit of a task for him at the moment but he will get stronger each day. He is a total love bug through it all even though humans have totally failed him his entire life.

Susannah

Age (estimate): 3 years

Breed/Info: Piebald Weimaraner

Susannah was another dog brought in from the hoarding situation near Victoria. She is such a sweet girl and has come a tremendous way after spending the first 3-4 years of her life on a property with 150 other dogs. She was pretty shy at the beginning, but has opened up very quickly. She has even gotten to the point of giving little prances when she sees her favorite kennel techs! She loves to lay at her feet and will give lots of tail wags and butterfly kisses for pets. She is still not great on a leash, but would do great in a home with a yard and another chill dog to show her the ropes. She is also good with cats.

Adoption Fee $200

Riesling

Age (estimate): 2 years

Breed/Info: Terrier/Lab Mix

Riesling is the momma of our 8 wine babies! She came to us along with her pups from Dallas Animal Services. Poor girl sustained a ruptured mammary gland and was then separated from her babies because of it. She wasn’t getting the proper care she so needed so soon it became infected. And of course, they soon tried to euthanize her because she ended up septic. However, we stepped in and said “I DON’T THINK SO!” We soon rescued her along with her babies and all are doing just wonderful! Momma is still recovering but you’d never know! She doesn’t let her wound get in the way of hanging with her fellow fur friends and climbing in anyone’s lap that will have her. Which is obviously everyone because how can you say no to those baby seal eyes!!!

Hendrix

Age (estimate): 1 year

He is just a big baby that needs a loving home to cherish him and give him lots of cuddles! Foster needed.

Rambo

Age (estimate): 5 years

Breed/Info: Mastiff/Shepard Mix

Rambo is a special dog who has spent the last five years loving and being loved unconditionally. Unlike a lot of our dogs, he has had an amazing life with an amazing owner. That was until a few months ago. Rambo’s owner found out she had terminal cancer. With only weeks to live, she spent as much time with him as she could, and did everything she knew to do to try and find him a family to love him when she left this world. After searching and not being able to find anyone to take the big guy, she made the hardest decision of her life. Living in a community known for dog fighting and mistreating animals, the last thing she could do was leave him to a life of neglect and abuse...so she decided that before she died, she was going to have him peacefully euthanized. As she stood there defeated, holding his leash with tears in her eyes, she told the vet that her worst fear was him ending up on the street, in a high kill shelter, or being used as a bait dog...and pleaded for him to fulfill her wish. Hearing the story, one of the vet techs asked the owner to please let her try and find a home for Rambo. She proceeded to reach out to one of our contacts in the community, and we agreed immediately to help this dog and even made plans to bring him up the following week. Unfortunately, during that time, someone local stepped up and offered to take him in. We were okay with that. After all, all we wanted was to ensure Rambo had a safe home and that his owner could pass in peace knowing he was alive and loved. A few days later, however, our director was looking at the urgent euthanasia list for a small rural shelter in the same area and Rambo was on the list…. This dog had just lost the only person he had ever loved, and now he was abandoned in the one place she feared the most. This could not stand. Thanks to the amazing volunteers at the shelter, we spent two hours at midnight securing his tag and arranging his safe exit from the shelter. Thanks to The Bare Bus Rescue Transport, he was safely transported to San Antonio to be held until he made his way to Dallas. He is now decompressing in a loving foster home until he finds his second forever home! Rambo is a no-cats dude, and he's selective about his dog friends. He'd probably prefer to be the only dog in the house. He loves, and I mean LOVES his people, even kiddos! Though he might knock them down, he'd kiss them to make them better.

Colbi

Age (estimate): 6 years

Breed/Info: Beagle Mix

Cobi was an owner surrender by a nice couple who had just had a baby. They loved her but worried about Cobi potentially resource guarding with the new child. Thankfully, they held onto her while we waited for room to open at the rescue. She really is the sweetest dog. She loves people and simply wants to please any person she comes across! She can be dog selective so she will need to go to a home with either compatible dogs or be an only child. We have not cat-tested her yet. Foster needed.

Professor

Age (estimate): 1 Year

Breed/Info: English Pointer

You have probably heard about bait dogs, but have you ever seen a dog with “BAIT” tattooed their ear?! We hadn’t, until we met Professor. From observation, we believe he has spent most of his life outside, and is nervous when people bring their hands near his head. He is not aggressive, just scared and nervous. Once you give him an ear rub and prove you are good, he is your best friend. This sweet boy deserves to learn the only thing his ear will be used as bait for is ear rubs and kisses. This boy could really use a patient foster.

Jake

Age (estimate): 10 Years

Breed/Info: Labrador Retriever

Jake, a 10 year at old stray Dallas Animal Services, was not in very good shape when his new fosters walked in to meet him. He was curled up in a ball on the floor and barley looked up; his nails were super long, and he had lost some hair due to some pretty serious mange. They couldn’t leave him there. Jake’s transformation in the short distance it took to get him from the shelter (picture 1) into the car for his freedom ride (picture 2) is just about the best thing we’ve seen in a long time! We can’t wait to see more of this sweet senior’s personality come out! Adopt Jake!

Demeter

Age (estimate): 3 Years

Breed/Info: English Pointer

We were tagged on a video of 3 babies being dragged into Harris County Shelter on ropes! This shelter is already 200%+ over capacity and owner surrenders are the first to go on the euthanasia list. As it turns out, he had already dragged 3 others into the shelter. Obviously, we were livid and had to do something. We believe Demeter is the matriarch of the family. It took this scared mama almost a hour before we could coax her inside, but she is feeling better with each passing moment. While we do have space at the rescue center, these dogs have all already been severely traumatized as owner surrenders, and would do SO much better in homes. If you can help by fostering one of them, we would truly appreciate the help in changing their lives for the better. Foster needed.
